It may or may not be spring…
But it’s *definitely* Friday. And that means it’s definitely time for another edition of Friday Night Likes, a round up of everything I liked this week.
And, oh! Speaking of TIME, first up on the list is:
My op-ed in TIME Magazine
This information might feel like a joke due to the fact that I have not mentioned it one single time and have been cool, calm and collected for two whole months, but it's true: I have an op-ed in the print edition of TIME Magazine (the March 25 issue) which is also available to read on its website!
The fact that my byline is in print feels like kismet. Originally, Time asked if I'd write a piece for their website, which was very exciting. I planned to ask about pitching to the magazine too, but before I could do it, they said it would fit perfectly in an upcoming personal finance package they were publishing in the magazine.
They also asked if I’d be interested in producing a video to pair the online story and on their social media channels. THAT part was a tough sell, because as you know, I am extremely camera-shy and introverted, but somehow they managed to convince me.
I am so grateful for the opportunity, as well as all the kind words I’ve received since it was published. Of course I never imagined that DEBT would be the topic to get me into TIME Magazine, or my first print byline for that matter, but I did think I’d eventually have something in common with Taylor Swift besides our shared love of cats so I guess it all makes sense.
My mom’s attempt at sharing my op-ed in TIME
10/10 execution. No notes.
(I love you mom, thank you for always supporting me and for bringing so much joy and laughter into my life both intentionally and unintentionally).
My partner in TIME (and crime)
None of the assets I delivered to TIME would have been half as well-done as they were without my writing partner Rachel’s consulting & editing skills.
If you think I’ve become a better writer over these past two years, she is the reason. If you don’t think I’ve become a better writer, I actually don’t want to know. Okay, thanks, love you, bye!
The Hunt
Oh look, something that has nothing to do with my TIME op-ed!
On a recommendation, I went to see The Hunt at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn this week. Because I didn't know anything about it in advance, I don’t really want to tell you anything about it. Just know that I highly recommend it and there are only a handful of chances left for you to see it, so this is your warning.
I was completely enthralled, on the edge of my seat through the entire show, so impressed by the staging and moved by every single performance.
Speaking of The Hunt, there’s no need to hunt for my TIME piece. Here it is again! (OK, I’m done now. I promise.)
Have a beautiful weekend (and look out for something from me on Sunday!)
XO,
Jamie AF
