Happy Friday! I don’t have time to write a full Friday Night Likes intro this week. I will tell you more about WHY soon.
Here are the things I liked this week! I love you, happy weekend!
Fibbage
Last weekend, I was away with friends and we tried to play a game I brought that required dry erase markers. Unfortunately, the game is four years old, and I haven’t played it in at least two years. All the markers were dried up, deeming play impossible.
Defeated, I suddenly had a vision of the computer-to-TV quiz-ish games that were popular a few years back (and maybe still are?). I opened my computer and paid $9.99 to buy the one I remember liking the most: Fibbage.
Needless to say we spent the next three hours playing many rounds of the game: the goal is to trick your friends by inputting answer to a trivia question. You get points for everyone you trick into thinking that yours is the real answer, and points if you yourself pick the actual true answer. SO FUN. $9.99 well spent.
Roasted Tomato and White Bean Stew from NYT cooking
I haven’t had a lot of time to cook this week but I saw this recipe pop up in my inbox and just was like I NEED THAT STEW. I grabbed tomatoes on the way home but, once there, I realized I didn’t have beans: just a can of chickpeas and the cooked giant beans in tomato sauce from Trader Joe’s. Oh well. I used what I had, added anchovies to the base of the stew and wilted in some spinach, then I made some soft boiled eggs (my method: boil water, gently drop eggs in, cook for seven minutes, no ice bath, once drained, shake them around in the pot a little bit to crack the shells, let sit for a few minutes before peeling) to go on top and ate it with sourdough toast. Wow. SO GOOD.
Playing guitar / getting rid of my nails
Having long nails has been part of my personality for a number of years, but when I started to take guitar lessons in 2019, I was faced with an impossible choice: either commit to a hobby that makes me feel connected to my dad, keeps me off of my phone and feels really rewarding every time I do it, or have stupid ass nails.
The lessons stopped during COVID and the nails came back. But I recently started them up again and realized how much more important being able to engage with a creative practice that is not only fun but feels meditative is way more important to me than what my nails look like. Growth!
Good Grief
Good Grief has been on my list since I saw Dan Levy post about it in January. On Thursday, it became the seventh movie toward my goal of watching 100 movies this year.
It’s a little silly and heavy-handed in some ways if I’m honest but, it’s worth watching for the Paris scenes and modern Nancy Meyers-esque house alone. It made me emotional more than once and the friendships are fun to watch. Plus Dan Levy is just so cute. Actually everyone in this movie is so cute.
Fulfilling work
As mentioned, I am busy this week at work on a project that is challenging, exciting and filling me with joy. You can read a little bit more about that here, and stay tuned for more updates :)
Love you byeeeeeeeeeee,
Jamie AF
