I’ve been complaining for months (incessantly, and to everyone) about the dull, but also incessant, pain behind my right eye.
During that time I’ve drawn a number of worst-case-scenario conclusions about the pain’s obviously life-threatening causes.
Naturally, these conclusions were based solely on internet research.
And naturally, I never once considered the facts that I used to have an astigmatism, that I was prescribed glasses I never wore, and that I generally look at a screen too much.
Maybe I should do some internet searching on memory loss.
In any event, a medical professional, as well as pretty much everyone else, concluded that the cause of my eye pain was eye strain, and that I should probably just start wearing glasses again.
Today’s first Friday Night Like is: my new Warby Parker glasses. These are the ones. Did you know that they can make any of their sunglasses regular glasses? Well, now you do.
Now that I can see things, it’s time to tell you about the other things I’ve seen.
For example, I saw Civil War on Tuesday, which does not get a spot on the Friday Night Likes list. What does make the cut, however, is one specifically chilling scene from the movie featuring Jesse Plemons.
He’s in the movie for all of 10 minutes and the appearance is so remarkable there’s an entire Vulture article dedicated to it. What’s more, he wears a particularly menacing pair of sunglasses in the scene. Did he read my mind? I am more scared of him now than I was before. Nice work.
Finally, the last best-thing I saw this week is this photo that, ironically, is a bit hard to see.
It’s a photo of me talking to Gary Gulman after his show at Union Hall on Wednesday (another great thing I saw!)
I approached him after his set to tell him how much this bit, from his recent special, spoke to me and Rachel, because we wrote an entire mini episode of Debt Heads on the mythology of “sales” last summer:
Rachel snuck a quick pic while we (obviously) became best friends, and it’s my new prized possession.
Wishing you a weekend filled with feeling seen and seeing everything you want.
XOXO,
Jamie AF
